Discover the difference! Studio E Outdoors, Ltd. has developed the Al-Lure brand of alpaca fiber dubbing in 10 exclusive colors; and yarn materials in 17 colors including the exciting new color “Ohio Cheese”.

Alpaca Fiber and Fly Tying: The physical composition of alpaca fiber makes it a perfect material for both dry and wet fly applications. Some varieties of alpaca have a hollow-core which are excellent for dry patterns. The fiber can be used for bodies, tails and entire streamer patterns. Because it is relatively new to many tiers there is a lot to learn about different types of alpaca and the varied fiber characteristics. Part of the Studio E Outdoors "vision" is to help educate fly tyers to better understand the properties and uses of the different types of alpaca fiber.

Studio E Outdoors, Ltd. currently produces dubbing materials and yarns of the Suri Alpaca that is one of the rarest and most sought after variety of alpaca in the United States of America and worldwide. What is so special about Suri Alpaca Fiber? The Suri Alpaca is distinguished in the camelid family by its unique fiber characteristics. The fiber grows parallel to the body while hanging in long, separate, distinctive locks. The locks can grow 5-6.5 inches per year and has very little guard hair. Suri fiber has a slick hand and softness with and exquisite luster giving it exceptional flowing characteristics and light reflection in water. Its artistic style enhances the graceful appearance of the animal compared to the soft, wooly look of the Huacaya Alpaca. Suri fiber is in demand and consistently brings a premium price in the fiber market.

The Huacaya Alpaca is the more common variety with a shorter "crimped" hair characteristics. Besides the length (2-3 inches/year) here is a noticable difference in luster. The fiber is hollow which helps it float and would make a great material for dry fly bodies. Studio E Outdoors, Ltd. will have Huacaya Alpaca fiber for dubbing in March, 2007 available in 5 natural colors. Visit our online store at http://shop.studioeoutdoors.com

Pictures & Color Chart Comming Soon:
Yeah, need some pictures to help explain some things.  I took some the other day but the color was really bad.  Give me a couple days and I can add some better ones.  This is the yarn selection, (not nearly as good as in person).
